Maryborough West station is the gateway point to Maryborough and Hervey Bay with RailBus connections available.
Maryborough is on the Country of the Gubbi Gubbi and Butchulla peoples. The town is located on the Mary River and offers an array of art, statues, heritage buildings and museums. Maryborough was once Queensland’s industrial powerhouse in the final decade of the 19th century, producing naval ships, heavy castings for sugar mills, railway locomotives and rollingstock. It was also the centre of significant agriculture, including timber milling and sugar cane growing.
Each year, the town celebrates the author of the Mary Poppins books, Pamela Lyndon Travers, who was born in Maryborough, with a Mary Poppins Festival.
Hervey Bay is located 30 minutes from Maryborough West station. Offering an idyllic seaside holiday, with family-friendly beaches, whale watching during July to November and the gateway to K'gari, the traditional home of the Butchulla people.
K'gari is the world's largest sand island. It is 123 kilometres long and covers an area of 166,038 hectares. It was listed as a World Heritage Area in 1992 to recognise the island's internationally significant natural features and the largest sand island in the world.
